ROMEO AND JULIET | TAMING OF THE SHREW

SHAKESPEARE IN THE SANGRES—OUTDOOR THEATER AT ITS BEST!

Amphitheatre opens at 5:00 PM, bring folding chairs and optional picnic. Tickets 15 dollars and $ 5 for Youth 12 and under.

Shakespeare in the Sangres: Romeo and Juliet and Taming Of the Shrew in alternating repertory. Starts with Taming of the Shrew on Thursday, July 3 and Saturday, July 5th, and Romeo and Juliet on Friday July 4 and Sunday July 6th.

The play tells of the son and daughter of rival families who fall in love, causing age-old grudges to resurface to harm the star-crossed lovers. "West Side Story" told the tale in modern terms, but come and enjoy Shakespeare's original version.

In "Taming of the Shrew", the hero, Petruchio, decides that Kate, the beautiful girl with the awful temper, will make a wonderful wife once she is tamed. Kate fights him tooth and nail and wants nothing to do with any suitor. The stormy courting - through the final taming of the shrew - is one of Shakespeare's most enjoyable comedies.

You can enjoy these two performances at 6PM in the new amphitheatre and park behind the Jones Theater.

Come as early as 5:00 PM and bring your picnic basket to dine on the lawn before the show. Or have dinner first at the adjacent Feed Store Pub and Grill. Any way you decide to do it, you are certain to have a memorable evening.

Call the theater at 719-783-3004 for further information or for reservations. Tickets available at Candy's Coffee 106 south 2nd St. Westcliffe.

LIVE THEATER: THE EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS

This is our prize-winning fourth play of the season. It is a family comedy/ drama that will make you laugh and tug at your heartstrings at the same time.
Winner of the 1971 Pulitzer Prize, the Obie Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award as Best American Play of the season!

Frowzy, acid-tongued, Beatrice Hunsdorfer, is supporting herself and her two daughters by taking in a decrepit old boarder. She wreaks a petty vengeance on everybody about her. One daughter, Ruth, is a pretty but highly-strung girl subject to convulsions; while the younger daughter, Matilda, plain and almost pathologically shy, has an intuitive gift for science.

Encouraged by her teacher, Tillie undertakes a gamma ray experiment with marigolds that wins a prize at her high school-and also brings on the shattering climax of the play. And yet, as Tillie's experiment proves, something beautiful and full of promise can emerge from even the most barren, afflicted soil. This is the timeless lesson of the play and the root of its moving power and truth.

Tickets $10, available at Candy's Coffee, included in your season ticket.

INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

Action adventure starring Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett.

Indiana Jones is back! This time he races against the commies to uncover the secrets of the Crystal Skull.
To state the obvious, Indiana Jones is not like most people, and it's not just because of his predilection for fedoras and bullwhips. Indy is willing and able to do extraordinary heroic acts that would make a regular Joe cower in a fetal position under his desk. Dr. Jones has fought Nazis in Egypt, cultists in India, and now Soviets in South America, proving that neither the years nor the mileage can slow him down!

Rated PG 13

KUNG FU PANDA

Animated family comedy.

Enthusiastic, big and a little clumsy, Po is the biggest fan of Kung Fu around...which doesn't exactly come in handy while working every day in his family's noodle shop. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, Po's dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five -- Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey -- under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu.

But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po puts his heart - and his girth - into the task, and the unlikely hero ultimately finds that his greatest test.
